Cat. #0014231432: MICHAEL GOODLIFFE

Exceptionally rare vintage blue felt-tip pen signature on a 3x5-inch off-white card, acquired in-person by an inveterate autograph hound in the 1970s. In good condition. Note that the image of the star shown here alongside the scan of the signed card is not included. Authoritative English character actor Michael Goodliffe's brief, tortured life came to an end at the age of 61, when he leaped from the fire escape of a psychiatric hospital in which he was being treated for severe depression. His acting career had several major highlights, including Cry, the Beloved Country (1951), The End of the Affair (1955), A Night to Remember (1958), The 39 Steps (1959), Sink the Bismarck! (1960), Michael Powell's Peeping Tom (1960), and The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961). He is probably best remembered, however, for key roles in two cult favorites-- which is why his elusive autograph is so highly sought out by collectors: Professor Julius Heitz in Hammer's The Gorgon (1964) and Bill Tanner in the James Bond classic The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). This is just the second example we have ever encountered.
